DURING A DEMONSTRATION AUTO-ROTATION LANDING, THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR MISJUDGED HIS ELEVATION ABOVE THE GROUND IN THE FLARE AND LANDED HARD, SEVERING THE ROTORCRAFT'S TAILBOOM.

Probable Cause: THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR'S MISJUDGING HIS FLARE DURING A SIMULATED AUTOROTATION.
