Narrative:After take-off from Runway 2C at Nashville the aircraft did not climb as expected and was seen to be flying 'very low and slow' in a right bank. This initially shallow right bank was seen to steepen and the aircraft impacted the ground in a steep right wing low attitude just to the north of Runway 2C.
At the time of the accident the MU2 was being ferried to International Flight Centre's maintenance base at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to have its right engine inspected. The accident happened in daylight and in VMC, temperature +95f. On a previous flight, low power had been noted on the right engine. The right engine fuel flow was 5 to 8 gallons per hour less than the left engine and the right engine temperature (ITT) was about 500 degrees less than the left.
The NTSB determined the probable cause to be: The company/operator management's decision to operate the aircraft with a known deficiency without further maintenance, the pilot's improper planning/decision and the pilot's failure to abort the take-off while there was sufficient runway remaining. Factors related to the accident were: lack of power in the right engine, and the unfavourable meteorological conditions at the airport.
The pilot (the sole person on board) was killed. The registration N82MA was cancelled by the FAA on January 22 1993
