El 16 de octubre de 1915 en el Campo Esquivel (Hoy Ramos Meiías provincia de Buenos Aires), el Contramaestre de 2° Foppiano lo alertó contra corrientes de aire. Joaquín Oytabén despegó solo; mientras hacía varias pasadas sobre el hangar, el Farman atravesó un remolino de aire. Según relatos, el biplano, prácticamente invertido, se partió en el aire. El piloto, al ser despedido del avión y sin paracaídas, falleció al caer desde 250 metros de altura.
