Narrative:
A JASDF F-4EJ was taking off when it spun around and stopped partly outside the runway due to take off being aborted at a late stage of the run. A fire extinguished. Crew abandoned unhurt. Cause: the wheel hub of the port main undercarriage fractured due to metal fatigue, and fragments then punctured the drop tank, causing a fuel leak. The hub contacting the runway then produced sparks which ignited the leaking fuel and caused a fire.
