Narrative:
A member of 222 squadron based Selsey bill.Pilot officer RA CARSON was on a dawn patrol over Holland. While attacking ground Troops with his wingman his engine was hit by ground fire.At low altitude he crashed landed with wheels up.He jumped unhurt after landing from the plane and outran the troops whom he had been shooting up. He linked up with the Dutch resistance and a month later crossed from the occupied zone andlinked up with the advancing Allies.
Hewas awarded the Milirary Cross for his escape and evasion . He returned to his unit 222 squadron who were converting toTEMPESTS at Predannick Cornwall. He survived the war and remained in the RAF until 1967.His last command was as AOC 42 Squadron flying SHACKLETONS.
