Narrative:Lancaster B.Mk.1 "KM-S" of 44 (Rhodesia) Sqn., RAF. When lost this aircraft had a total of 19 hours on the airframe. Airborne from Waddington 23 September 1942 at 23:20. Target: Bremen.
The aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Oberleutnant Manfred Meurer of the Stab III./NJG 1, who was flying a Bf 110 F-4 from Twente airfield; crashed at 03:26 on the 14 September 1942 at Emst (Gelderland), 12 km N of Apeldoorn. Six of the seven crew were KIA, one bailed out, survived injured to be captured and taken POW:
