Narrative:Diverted to Bordeaux-Merignac due to bad weather at planned destination Landivisiau. ATC had initially offered a diversion into the much closer airfield Lorient, however, that was unsuitable due to insufficient runway length. The mishap aircraft had fuel transfer problems. The decision to divert has made late. As a result, the aircraft was very low on fuel. The approach was flown flaps up. Instead of a fast approach and a firm touch-down, the pilot used an improper landing technique: Slowing down with this configuration in conjunction with an imbalanced weight distribution due to the trapped fuel in one external tank resulted in the aircraft going out of control during final approach. Oberstlt Peter Puhl and Hptm Klaus Lange-Gieseler killed.
