The float-equipped Bell 206L took off from Clyde River around 2009z on a VFR flight to Pond Inlet.

The helicopter was equipped with a flight following SkyTrac and was reported missing. The last known point was 70 57N 070 05W. It is believed to have been involved into a CFIT (water).

RCC Trenton reported on 23 August 2010 that the debris field extended almost 5 miles and based on the condition of the wreckage, the impact of the helicopter in the water was severe. The pieces recovered by the coast guard have been deposited in Clyde River. The next of kin of the pilot were briefed and the search has been terminated. The pilots body was never recovered.

TSB could not determined why the helicopter struck the sea surface.
