Narrative:C-FRWZ was conducting training approaches to the southern apex of triangle runway pattern at St. Thomas Municipal Airport, St. Thomas, Ontario. As power was applied due to a short approach, the aircraft continued sinking and the rear of the skids struck the soft ground causing the front of the skids to dig in and flip the aircraft on its right side. Two persons on board walked away.
UPDATE 2002-06-19: The student was practising approaches to runway 09 at St. Thomas Municipal Airport, St. Thomas, Ontario, when it became apparent to the instructor that the helicopter was going to touchdown short of the runway. The instructor took control of the helicopter but was not able to arrest the descent in time to recover to a hover. The helicopter landed in a freshly ploughed field. The tail of the skids contacted the uneven terrain and the helicopter pitched forward and rolled onto its side. Both pilots evacuated the aircraft and were not injured. The helicopter was substantially damaged.
Canadian registration C-FRWZ was cancelled on 02+12-2003 as "damaged beyond repair". (The registration mark C-FRWZ was re-allocated on 17-05-2016 to a Bell 407)
