Narrative:Captain-pilot Jacques de Caters, (born 2 March 1904 in Bruges) was the commanding officer of 5/III/3 Aéronautique Militaire Belge, had engine trouble during a flight with the Fairey Battle T-69 in the vicinity of Eeklo, East Flanders, and searched for a place to put the aircraft down. However, he touched the tops of two trees on the edge of the road. His Battle slid a little further across the field, hit headlong and caught fire. The pilot could not save himself.
