Boeing B-29A-45-BN Superfortress 44-61780: Delivered to USAAF 1 June 1945. Assigned to 340th Bomb Squadron, 97th Bomb Group, Biggs AFB, Texas. Damaged in accident 16 September 1948 due to friendly fire at Range 52, Eglin AFB, Florida.

Repaired and returned to service: re-assigned to 580th Air Resupply Squadron, Mountain Home AFB, Iadho, Re-Assigned to 582nd Resupply and Communication Wing, RAF Molesworth, Cambridgeshire, England.

Written off (destroyed) 10 June 1955: The crew was performing a flight from RAF Molesworth, Cambridgeshire, to Stuttgart. While approaching Stuttgart-Echterdingen Airport by night, the crew was contacted by ATC and rerouted to Fürstenfeldbruck Airbase near Munich due to insufficient visibility caused by foggy conditions. A few minutes later, while cruising at low height, the airplane hit the slope of the 775-metre/2,543 foot Mount Teckberg, located about 1 mile east of Owen, Baden-Württemberg (at approximate Coordinates 48°35′17″N 9°28′14″E). All ten crew members were killed.
