Narrative:Ditched in the Gulf of Aden with 25 persons on board (17 marines and 8 navy) all of whom were recovered aboard USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19). The accident occurred as the aircraft came into land on USS Mesa Verde and is under investigation but was not a result of hostile fire.
The Marine Corps investigations findings into the loss of the US$ 47.8 million aircraft were reported by The Washington Post and Virginian-Pilot in October, 2015. The investigators attributed the crash to a number 2 engine failure on final approach to the ship.
