Narrative:
An Embraer ERJ-170 operated by J-Air involved two successive return incidents. Japan Airlines' flight JAL/JL2123 to Hakodate departed from Osaka/Itami at 11:42 JST with 66 soul onboard. At 11:55, hot bleed air from No. 1 engine for the wing anti-ice system begun to leak. The crew decided to return to Itami, and the flight made a safe landing at about 12:45. A crack in an interface gasket was located by the inspection, and it was fixed. Then the airplane was assigned to the flight JAL/JL2237 to Yamagata later on that day. The flight was departed from Itami at 16:18 with 38 onboard, however, the same problem occurred at the same engine. The plane landed back to Itami at about 17:10, and another crack was found. No injuries were reported for both flights. After these incidents, J-Air performed inspection for all ten E170's of the fleet, and found that other four planes should also be grounded for further maintenance on 12th May and three more on 13th May, causing a mass of cancellation of domestic flights in a few days.
