Narrative:
The helicopter crashed in marsh land about 5 nautical miles east of South Lafourche Leonard Miller Jr Airport (GAO), Galliano, c 8 minutes after take off after descending from cruise flight from an approximate altitude of 300 feet mean sea level. The pilot and passenger received fatal injuries.

The closest official weather reporting location was GAO, which had an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) and issued observations every 20-minutes. The following conditions were reported at the time of the accident:

At 1135, wind from 160 at 3 knots, visibility 10 statute miles, overcast at 600 feet above ground level, temperature 24C, dew point 22C, altimeter setting of 30.11 inches of mercury.
At 1155, wind from 170 at 4 knots, visibility 10 statute miles, overcast at 600 feet above ground level, temperature 25 Celsius (C), dew point 23 C, altimeter setting of 30.12 inches of mercury.
At 1215, wind from 180 at 5 knots, visibility 10 statute miles, overcast 800 feet above ground level, temperature 25C, dew point 23C, altimeter setting of 30.12 inches of mercury.

The flight was destined for an offshore platform in Viosca Knoll (VK956), Gulf of Mexico, about 69 nautical miles east/southeast of Venice, Louisiana.
