WHILE ON A X-COUNTRY FLT THE PLT FLEW INTO A CANYON WHERE TURBULENCE WAS ENCOUNTERED. THE PLT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALT AND DURING THE DESCENT THE ACFT COLLIDED WITH THE TERRAIN IN A SMALL SIDE CANYON. CAUSE:
