Narrative:On 6 February 1969 the Piper was on a charter cargo flight from Rockhampton to Jellingbah Station. On take off, and at a height of 80 feet, the pilot noticed the front baggage compartment door was open. As there was 2500 feet of runway left, he decided to land immediately. Without changing the attitude of the aircraft he closed the throttle. The Piper landed heavily and was substantially damaged. Luckily the two occupants were uninjured.
