The village is situated on the south bank of the River Tees opposite Hurworth, four and a half miles south east of Darlington, County Durham). Some sources state that Spitfire K9838 lost a wing whilst recovering from a dive. Pilot - Sgt George Verdun Serjeant - killed. Struck Off Charge same day. Total Flying Hours 21:25.
